More Than Ordinary Thrifting

Our Mission

More Than a Fad exists to raise funds and awareness for women in addiction recovery by offering quality, affordable items, promoting sustainable practices, operating with excellence in customer service and providing volunteer and work experience opportunities for the community.

About Adeara Recovery Centre

Adeara is an accredited addiction recovery centre for women and their children, located in Edmonton. Our long-term, faith-based program is offered in a residential setting, guiding women through each stage of their recovery journey—from addiction to sobriety, and ultimately reintegrating into the community.

We believe in the spiritual, transformative power found in the biblical Christ, who provides hope, healing and restoration to every single life as they are now. Alongside the bio-psycho-social aspects of our recovery program, residents are offered the opportunity for spiritual development at their own pace.

Our addiction program provides:

  • Safe shelter for women and their children with 24/7 care and support
  • A fully furnished suite for each woman (and her children)
  • A 1-year recovery program with opportunity to extend the program on an individual basis
  • Daily programming addressing addiction in four key areas: biological, social, spiritual, and psychological
  • Mother and child-centered events and classes
  • Transition support into independent living

Our History

More Than a Fad was previously a thrift store called “Treats ‘N Treasures” in the same location. Owned by Shepherd’s Care Foundation, it was generously gifted to Adeara Recovery Centre in early 2020. The store had formerly raised funds for supporting seniors living in Shepherd’s Care facilities, but was no longer a fit. This offer came at a time of financial need for Adeara amidst the troubling times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the spring and summer months, Adeara assembled a small and dedicated team to turn over a new page in the store. On July 2, 2020 we launched the new store as More Than a Fad Thrift Store and began our thrift store journey.

Make Recovery Accessible

Adeara runs largely on donations from generous individuals, keeping recovery affordable for women who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access our support. Did you know that every $1 you invest in a recovery and healing program yields a minimum return of $4–$7 in reduced system costs in our communities? Any amount you can contribute makes a difference to us here at Adeara.

Please consider supporting us today so we can change futures through changed lives.

Be Part of Adeara’s Next Event

Adeara holds fundraising events throughout the year that engage the community and educate potential partners while raising funds to ensure sustainability of our work. You can get involved by volunteeringsponsoring, or attending any of our key events!
